27 Jun 2010In developing countries children are prone to many eyesight diseases. These eyesight diseases affect mainly children; the children lose their eyes and become blind. The children sometimes become ill due to the eyesight loss and sometimes even die due to illness. Two scientists have joined hands and found a way to get rid of the eye sight loss by a natural way. The corns in developing countries are rich source of vitamin A and vitamin A is good source for eye deficiencies. The corn is known to contain carotenoids and when it reaches the body the body turns these carotenoids into vitamin A.
The best vitamin A precursor is beta carotene, which is present in some corn varieties. The beta carotene presence in corn is very high level naturally and is found in developing countries. Some developing regions the corn is the main staple and even though many children become blind due to vitamin A. The beta carotene content in developing countries corn is very less when compared to other varieties. These children when given corn, corn can improve their immune system and prevent them from going blind.
The corn varieties available in these developing countries can be hybrid with some high beta carotene corn variety. This will there by increase the level of beta carotene in this new variety and children can be given this. When the new hybrid corn is taken the children will receive more vitamin A so hey will have no eye deficiencies. Thus this research is a breakthrough in the nutritional breeding of plants.
